McCauley is a significant contributor to ACM’s Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), an international community of thousands of educators, and will participate in the 54th Annual ACM Computer Science Conference in March 2023. A technical symposium on education recognizes his work.formally receive the 2023 SIGCSE Award for Lifetime Service to the Computer Science Education Community. This award honors individuals with a long history of volunteer service to the computer science education community.
McCauley has been a member of ACM SIGCSE for over 30 years as a computing professional.For her, attending the SIGCSE conference is like going to the Sundance Film Festival where you can catch a glimpse of the stars.
“I remember seeing a textbook author across the room talking about teaching methods. said McCauley. “While SIGCSE is accessible to all, this is not what you would expect at a professional conference. It is a very collegiate organization and a very welcoming and supportive group.”

McCauley’s positive experience with SIGCSE led her to apply for positions in various organizations over the years. In addition to co-chairing her annual conference, she was elected to the next member. He served on the board of SIGCSE for 12 years. He served three years as General Director, Treasurer, Chairman and most recently Chairman. Under her leadership, the SIGCSE organization has grown in several ways, from membership to conference size to international presence, Programs for K-12 level educators and specialized workshops for new faculty and department heads.
McCauley also held a leadership position at the parent organization, ACM, for six years. During her seven years, she co-edited a premier computing education research journal and led or contributed to several international computing her curriculum committees. She was also involved in the creation of Intrusion of ACM She has also served on numerous committees and panels of other national and international organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society, the National Science Foundation, and the Computing Research Association on the Status of Women..

“I am grateful to the College for giving me the opportunity to balance research grants, research papers and community service to the international community,” says Macquarie. “My career so far has been very rewarding.”

On March 17, 2023, McCauley will officially receive the Lifetime Service Award and will speak at the 54th ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education in Toronto, Canada. She talks about how she first attended her SIGCSE. about how, year after year, she became more and more involved. And finally, all the great people she has met and mentored. She hopes to encourage her younger colleagues to start engaging and contributing in the years to come as well.
