Rocket with ORCA type detector KM3NeT - LOM-on-anchor.jpg KM3NeT Next-generation neutrino telescope KM3NeT is a research platform that houses the next-generation neutrino telescope. When the telescope is complete, it will have a clear seawater detector volume of megatons to several cubic kilometers. Located in the deepest waters of the Mediterranean Sea, his KM3NeT will not only open new windows into our universe, but also contribute to the study of the properties of the elusive neutrino particle.  KM3NeT scientists will use the ARCA telescope to search for neutrinos from distant astrophysical sources such as supernovae, gamma-ray bursts and star collisions.  The ORCA telescope is an instrument for his KM3NeT scientists who utilize neutrinos produced in the Earth's atmosphere to study their properties. An array of thousands of optical sensors detects the faint light in the deep sea from charged particles resulting from neutrino collisions with Earth. The facility will also house instruments for earth and ocean sciences for long-term online monitoring of the deep-sea environment and the seafloor at depths of several kilometers.

I’m heading under the sea to help physicists find traces of one of the most mysterious particles in the universe. The Deep Sea Explorers project is looking for volunteers to denoise data collected by the Kilometer Cube Neutrino Telescope (KM3NeT) at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.

Neutrinos are tiny, invisible particles that are very elusive and difficult to observe under normal conditions. However, when neutrinos interact with matter, the charged particles produced emit shockwaves of bluish light known as Cherenkov radiation, which KM3NeT can do.
