Apple Pay will finally be available in Samsung’s home country of South Korea “in the coming months” in partnership with Hyundai Card, the credit card services arm of Hyundai Motor Group.
The launch of Apple Pay will be interesting as it will face off in Samsung Pay’s home market. Unsurprisingly, so far Samsung Pay dominates the Korean mobile payment space, with a market share of around 80%.

Last week, South Korea’s Financial Services Commission confirmed that domestic credit card companies are allowed to launch Apple Pay services, provided they do not charge any fees to consumers or merchants. So Hyundai Card is now keen to make it happen.
South Korea will become Apple Pay’s 10th Asia-Pacific region. Currently available in Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
