In January, Fairphone announced that it was ending software support for its second-generation smartphones, and the time has officially come. The Fairphone 2 is getting its final software update after the Dutch company’s 2015 release.
The device started with Android 5 Lollipop and now runs Android 10, though the company has maintained it with minor updates and security patches. This March of him is the last security patch ever received. Considering the Fairphone 2 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 and Qualcomm dropped support for his chipset in 2016, this is more than you can expect from his OEM. Qualcomm does not provide drivers.
In an official statement, the company assured that it will continue to support hardware as long as spare parts are in stock, but the Fairphone 2 will not be protected against new exploits and will therefore be considered vulnerable from May of this year.
