With over 20 years of experience in the technology industry, CodiumAI co-founder and CEO Itmar Friedman has personally experienced the pain of building test suites to check code logic. He realized that although he had tools to check the security and performance of his code, his code logic checkers were lacking.
He started CodiumAI to solve this problem by coming up with a solution that uses generative AI to build these tests automatically.
“There are many tools to check code for vulnerabilities and make sure it is secure. There are some tools to check performance, but very few. [any] A tool that actually verifies the code logic, such as a tool that checks down to the line of code and checks that it works. This is very frustrating and many developers spend 25% to 50% of their time writing tests and checking code logic,” Friedman told TechCrunch.
Most developers start programming with boilerplate code and add custom code to save time, he says. Typically, you write tests to ensure that the combined code works as designed. The company uses his CodiumAI to eliminate the need to manually create these logic tests, creating them for you.

Friedman said the solution uses generative AI to build these tests. Just click the “Generate Tests” button and the program will automatically analyze your code and create a set of tests. Developers can then manipulate this code to request more specific tests. A new test is automatically created based on your additional instructions.
He says he built a custom large-scale language model called TestGPT that is the core of the solution. “It’s used to generate code analysis, test plans, and test code. It’s then used to interactively respond to user requests to clarify these tests,” he said. explains.
The company has worked with 1000 early users over the past few months and is opening up its free product to anyone who wants to try it today. By getting developers involved early on the free product, Friedman said it will help future generations when they release products for teams and companies with more advanced features designed for the special requirements of these groups. We believe that we will be able to increase our earnings.
We currently have 15 employees and are recruiting. He said building a diverse team is a priority for him. “Today, with 15 employees, there is already a lot of diversity. [we have on the team]And now, while it is important to us, [we recognize] There is always something we can do and we put a lot of effort into it,” he said.
The $11 million seed investment was led by Vine Ventures and TLV Partners, with participation from several prominent angel investors in the industry.
