Overview and specifications
Just like last year, Xiaomi offers a number of Redmi Notes this year as well, apparently with versions for different markets. Four are available worldwide: Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Note 12 Pro, Note 12 and Note 12 4G. Vanilla notes are usually the most affordable, but Xiaomi has gone a step further with his 4G version of the decent Note 12, bringing the price down even further.
And we believe it makes perfect sense. 5G network capabilities may be great, but they do little to add value to the majority of the user base. After all, streaming high-quality video and music, as well as sending media via messaging apps, can be done on his existing 4G network. This is already pretty fast in most parts of the world, especially in Europe where the phone sells for €200 so if you’re looking for something simple that works, his 4G version of the Redmi Note 12 is the A good place to start your research.
4G has no obvious drawbacks compared to 5G options. It’s basically the same phone with a different main camera, chipset and memory configuration. Naturally, it will be 100 euros cheaper, so the memory configuration will start at 4GB / 64GB, but surprisingly, in theory the main camera should be better (with the new 50MP sensor and the 5G iteration he for 48MP). Despite the dedicated microSD card slot and lack of 5G connectivity, the Snapdragon 685 SoC looks significantly more powerful than the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 when looking at clock speeds alone. Both his SoCs are very new, so it remains to be seen which will come out on top.

The best part is that the Redmi Note 12 4G retains the 120Hz OLED screen. It promises a high maximum brightness and comes in a rather large size of 6.67 inches protected by three sheets of Gorilla Glass. The large 5,000 mAh battery supports 33W fast charging, and interestingly, the handset runs on the latest Android 13 with his MIUI 14. A box, in contrast to the 5G model that settles with Android 12 + MIUI 13. That’s probably because the phone was first announced in China last October.
In any case, with smartphone prices continuing to rise over the past year or so, many are likely to turn to more budget-minded recent smartphone releases and the Redmi Note 12 4G would be perfect for 2023. Unpacking the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G
The phone comes in a standard retail box that includes the usual stuff like a user manual, a suitable USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and data transfer, and of course a 33W charging brick.
