prologue
Pro becomes Ultra – Motorola’s Edge 40 Pro is here and inherits some bits from the Edge 30 Ultra, like ultra-fast charging and a zoom camera. Proper dust and water resistance is also back in the company’s mainstream lineup, and Motorola continues to push the boundaries of refresh rates for non-gaming phones. Sounds like a pretty attractive package then.

The Edge 40 Pro is the global version of the China-exclusive Moto X40 and has been available for several months already. Motorola is following the same release schedule and naming convention as last year. As before, it’s unclear at this time when (or if) another product with the same hardware will come to the US under a different name. For the time being, the Edge 40 Pro will launch on the European market with his MSRP of 900 euros.
It’s certainly not cheap, but the Edge 40 Pro offers a very high-end spec sheet. With the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside, the 6.7-inch OLED display can refresh at up to 165 Hz (rather than pedestrian’s 120 Hz or Motorola’s usual 144 Hz). A 4,600 mAh battery should be able to draw up to 125 W of power when charging. .
Two 50MP cameras on the back ensure plenty of light and detail in wide and ultra-wide shots. It also promises to work well for close-up shots thanks to its ultra-wide-angle autofocus.New to the 40 Pro is a 12MP zoom camera, introduced directly from last year’s 30 Ultra, and the 30 Pro’s simple depth sensor has been superseded by This is a most welcome development. The 60MP selfie camera is unchanged.
The Edge 40 Pro also focuses on design and build. Gorilla Glass Victus sheets on either side of the smartphone ensure the highest levels of scratch and shatter resistance, but are curved along all edges – durability has rarely been this elegant. , it’s also great what the name “edge” means. What else? On top of that, the Edge 40 Pro is aptly IP68 rated, unlike previous splash-only Motos.
Then there’s the Ready For feature that turns the Edge 40 Pro into a makeshift PC. It replaces Samsung’s DeX, which Motorola only offers on its high-end models. With a use case, you know who you are.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro Unboxing
The presentation of the Edge 40 Pro is similar to what the 30 Ultra came out with. Now that the black cardboard box is full-sized, you can tell that there are accessories inside unlike other top-tier devices, but Motorola is trying to keep the CO2 in a completely plastic-free package. Reduce emissions.

Not only is the phone rated for 125W charging, but it also comes with a TurboPower branded charger, which of course includes a USB-C cable. Additionally, Motorola provides a clear snap-on protective back cover for the box.
Back cover may not be included with all retail bundles. Likewise, don’t be surprised if you receive a pair of USB-C earbuds or your Moto comes with a screen protector. Which of these three subsets you get depends on your regional specifications. But everyone gets a phone, so let’s move on to that.
