- New rumors about the display of the Google Pixel Fold have surfaced.
- Google’s first foldable phone will reportedly use Samsung’s upgraded display.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, apparently won’t feature the same display, instead using the same display system as its predecessor.
Rumors about the device are swirling as Google prepares to finally reveal its first foldable phone, and a new report points to Samsung’s upcoming foldable device, with the Pixel Fold being one key area. It suggests that it is better than: display.
According to The Elec (opens in new tab), the Pixel Fold will use a new type of OLED display that won’t be available on many of the upcoming foldable phones this year. The display is called the M13, and it appears to be the successor to Samsung Display’s M12. But even Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 may not come with an upgraded panel.
Instead, Samsung’s next Fold will stick to the M12, the same display used in the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This could give the Pixel Fold a big advantage in an area where many foldable OEMs have struggled to improve in recent years.
It’s unclear what improvements the M13 will bring, but with the search giant expected to hold this year’s I/O event in May, we’ll likely learn more about the upgrade. However, The Elec reports that the Pixel Fold won’t be available for purchase until later this year. This contradicts previous rumors that the foldable handset will launch in June along with the Google Pixel 7a.
Meanwhile, previous leaks have given us some ideas about the Pixel Fold’s display specs. The device is supposed to feature a 7.6-inch display with a resolution of 1840 × 2208 and a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Several renderings have been shown to showcase its design, but none reveal whether the phone’s folds are less noticeable than many of today’s best foldable phones.
