Kangaroo faeces may help reduce the amount of methane produced by cattle, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture.
Methane has almost 30 times more potent warming effect than carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. About half of the world’s methane emissions come from ruminant animals such as cows and goats, which harbor a group of bacteria in their stomachs called methanogens. Methanogens recover and consume the hydrogen gas produced during the digestion of sugars.
