
Genetically modified blood stem cells are being investigated as a treatment for cancer and aging

A genetic modification has been discovered that can protect mice from cancer and live up to 20 percent longer. This finding is particularly promising because a single transplantation of blood stem cells can transfer the benefits to normal mice.
“It was a big surprise,” said Chekung James Shen of Taipei Medical University in Taiwan. “So far, no negative side effects have been found.”
