Lenovo to take advantage of Motorola acquisition
Lenovo surprised us at CES with new ThinkPhones running Android 13 on Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chips. It’s a pretty rugged phone and probably doesn’t need an IP68 rated case. That means it’s dustproof and can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes.
As you can imagine, Lenovo is geared towards the enterprise and along with their phones they offer their own MDM infrastructure called Moto OEMConfig and Moto Device Manager. It can also pair with a ThinkPad via Think 2 Think, allowing you to drag and drop files or copy and paste files between the two devices over a WiFi connection. In addition, you can set Windows Notifications on your ThinkPad to show phone notifications, and use the 8K 50-megapixel rear-facing camera or 32-megapixel front-facing camera as a webcam for calls.
Deployment should be easy. The phone comes preloaded with Microsoft 365, Outlook and Teams mobile apps, and Lenovo claims no configuration is required to deploy the ThinkPhone to new users. All of this is great, but as The Register points out, the real test is how aggressive Lenovo is in deploying upgrades and security patches.
