Depending on the results of the inspection, the Citrus County School District may consider leasing seven monopoles for cellular service.
At the Citrus County Board of Education’s regular meeting on Tuesday, January 10, telecommunications consulting firm SQF, LLC is the old Trillion Digital Communications monopole.
SQF inspects monopoles on behalf of Tilson Infrastructure, LLC to ensure suitability for single users of cell service. Tilson Infrastructure not only works with local and national wireless carriers, but also provides site management and maintenance for tower owners.

According to the meeting agenda, Tilson will approach the district to act as an intermediary to lease one or more monopoles to cell providers in exchange for compensation and remove other monopoles that are no longer used for telecommunication services. Did.
Essentially, assuming the monopole passes inspection, the monopole is leased to the cell service provider, generates income for the district over the lease term, and Tilson bears the cost of removing the other monopole.
Mobile phone service is poor in the areas of these seven monopoles, and installing mobile phone antennas at these locations will improve service to staff, students, and visitors.
Locations include Citrus High School, School Board Offices, Citrus Springs Elementary and Middle Schools, Homosassa Elementary School, Rock Crusher Elementary School, and Recanto Educational Resource Center.
In 2004-2005, 26 monopoles were installed on District-owned land for the District Computer Network. They were originally owned by Trillion Digital Communications pursuant to a master lease agreement approved by the School Board on January 27, 2004.
However, Trillion went bankrupt and its assets were acquired by TX Communications as Affinity in 2013 and subsequently transferred to Alternative Energy Solutions. The company owns the property under the terms of the original Trillion lease agreement, but the Board of Education owns the land. Based on a review of records, there are no easements or access entitlements attached to the property.
However, the Monopole is no longer used for district computer systems and should eventually be removed. Tilson’s chances of removing them are subject to the terms of the lease.
If the SQF inspection is successful and Tilson proposes consent, it will be returned to the school board for consideration.
Also approved at the school board meeting are the $54,500 purchase of a new elevator system for Lecanto High School and the remodeling/renovation of the kitchen at the Elementary School in Floral City, as well as several new or updated job descriptions for the district.
