Much of MVRDV’s recent architectural work is inspired by natural landscapes, including the recently completed Valley project. The interior measures 140,000 square meters (approximately 1.5 million square feet). MVRDV arranges this expansive space into pavilion areas, social gatherings and small, quiet reading rooms. The library, of course, hosts many books as well as resources for research, science, and other information.
“The interior concept further enhances the concept of Wuhan’s location at the confluence of rivers surrounded by the cityscape,” explained MVRDV. “The stepped terrace of the book evokes the sculptural lines of the canyon with a large ground-floor public space that visitors can enjoy all day.
