Today may not be the best day to fly. Earlier this morning, the Federal Aviation Administration suffered an outage in its air mission notification system. Better known as NOTAMs, these provide pilots with information about potential hazards on their route, possibly including temporary flight restrictions such as rocket launches and air shows.
As a result, flights across the United States are affected. Individual airlines delayed flights at first, But at 7:19 a.m. ET The FAA has announced a nationwide suspension of all flight departures until 9 a.m. Eastern time.
Update 3: The FAA continues work to fully restore the air mission notification system after the outage. ⁰⁰The FAA has ordered airlines to suspend all domestic departures until 9:00 a.m. Eastern time so that the integrity of flight and safety information can be verified.
