Not every bike rider can join the 2-wheel pedal assist revolution. Arizona budget-friendly e-bike maker Lectric has responded to those seeking the increased stability provided by a third wheel with the launch of the XP Trike.
Lectric’s first e-trike is built around a 6061 aluminum folding frame that folds down for transportation between rides, and the entire shebang weighs just 64 lbs (29 kg). When you’re ready to ride, he’s the company’s lowest standover height at 13.8 inches (35 cm), making it easy for a wide range of riders to get on and off.
Interestingly, the hub motor isn’t on the front wheels as you’d expect, but between the rear wheels on a dual differential axle, driving both. However, the settings allow each wheel to rotate at different speeds for safety when turning. This 500 W (1,092 W peak) geared brushless motor flattens hills of 65 Nm (48 lb.ft) at speeds up to 14 mph (22.5 km/h) with five pedal assist levels (depending on cadence). produces a torque that sensor), and even a twist throttle.
Electrical
A removable 48 V/14 Ah Lithium-Ion battery mounted behind the seat post is reported to provide up to 60 miles (96.5 km) of range on each 4-6 hour charge.
The XP Trike’s three wheels are fitted with 20 x 2.6 inch tires that rock custom reflective strips, and stopping power comes from front and rear hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors. Additionally, there is a parking brake. A backlit LCD display gives the rider at-a-glance indicators, it has integrated headlights and taillights, and can carry up to 450lbs (200kg) of weight, including the rider. Lectric also confirms that the e-trike is compatible with the company’s range of optional accessories and can be upgraded to a seat with a backrest for added comfort.
Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the XP Trike is the ticket price. It has a suggested retail price of US$1,499 (including a free cargo package consisting of small and large baskets and a front rack) and is available for pre-order starting February 7th. That’s a lot cheaper than his 3-wheel offerings from Rad Power Bikes and Addmotor these days. Shipments (finished products) are scheduled to begin in April.
