As a product review editor, I often have neat gadgets in my apartment. Whether you’re testing them or buying them under the influence of another writer. I now have a new champion of the coolest thing in my house: Tempur-Ergo smart base(opens in new window)(opens in new tab)Apology to former titleholder Ceraface Pro.
I was initially intrigued by the Tempur-Pedic smart bed. Because it had sleep tracking similar to wearables (with built-in massage, of course). Also intrigued). I wanted to see if the bed frame actually gave me insight into my sleeping habits.
Tempur-Ergo smart base while(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) Expensive for a bed frame (retail $1,949(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) for the queen), it was laid for two months and then sold.
What makes the Tempur Ergo Smart Base special?
Clearly, this is not your average bed frame. The Tempur-Pedic smart bed features head and foot raises, under-bed lighting, USB ports on both sides, head and foot massage zones, snore response, sleep monitoring, When sleep guidance. I was also able to set an alarm that would vibrate my bed to wake me up during the lightest stages of sleep within a customizable time frame.
The person who delivered the bed frame assembled it for me, so I didn’t have to do any heavy lifting or difficult assembly. The only manual setup I did was crawl under the bed to activate the sleep sensor.

We tested the Ergo frame with the Tempur Breeze mattress(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) (However, you don’t have to use a Tempur mattress to use the base). Once everything was set up, I immediately tried all the functions of the smartphone app by pressing all the buttons on the included remote control.
You could adjust the head and foot of the bed to your preferred incline or choose one of the presets. The Zero Gravity preset raises the head of the bed and food (to the point where the bed folds up like an octopus shell) to make you feel weightless while you sleep and relieve pressure on your back. .Bed so that you are upright. I found the TV position to be a little too vertical, so I stuck with the manual adjustment when I wanted to read or watch TV while sitting in bed. side sleeperI can’t imagine sleeping in that setting—I actually scoliosis trying to lie on my side while the bed warped into a weightless position.
Zero gravity will definitely ruin your bedding and pillow situation. (Also yes, you can store things under the bed if you move.)

As I said earlier, the massage feature really appealed to me.The remote control has 3 levels of massage for the entire bed, 2 levels each for the head and feet of the bed. To tell the truth, it’s more vibration than massage. Since the bed frame is doing it, a thick mattress may not seem like a strong massage. I would describe the feeling as white noise in your body.It was so much fun to fall asleep. brown noise listener). One of his complaints I have with the massage feature is that the vibration pattern occasionally skips beats randomly. However, the massage zone will automatically turn off after 30 minutes, so if you fall asleep or forget to turn it off, you don’t have to worry about burning out the motor.

Alternatively, you can use the remote control with the Sleeptracker app.

Additional features on the remote that I didn’t use much included an under-bed light (which I would have used more without). Hue Smart Bulb(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) This is an anti-snoring position. What I love about the remote is that it has a button to return all settings to neutral.
In addition to the physical remote control, there is a remote control in the app, but I had many troubles that it wouldn’t work no matter how many times I pressed the button. I made sure to keep the actual remote within reach as a backup. You can also set up voice control with Google Assistant or Alexa.
Track your sleep with the Tempur-Ergo smart base
Sleep tracking is what sets the Tempur Ergo apart from other adjustable bed frames.I loved tracking my sleep Fitbit Blaze(opens in new window)but I lost the functionality when I switched to apple watch series 3lacks built-in sleep tracking and relies on the Apple Health app to provide simplified metrics.
The Tempur-Pedic Smart Base’s sleep-tracking capabilities blew me away. I’m still struggling to understand how a bed frame can capture this kind of sleep insight. or when sleeping in other locations.
Difficulty sleeping on time
First, I set sleep goals, such as what time I want to go to bed, what time I want to wake up, and how many hours I want to sleep each night. I set my bedtime to midnight, so every night at 11:45 I got a bedtime notification on my phone from the Sleeptracker app. I don’t go to bed before midnight most weekends, so I wish I could set a different bedtime for each weekend. But the whole idea of sleep tracking is to maintain a consistent schedule of circadian rhythms. I can understand that.
It took me a week or two to figure out what a realistic bedtime and wakeup time was because I missed the windows I set so many times. It was frustrating when the app displayed a light reprimand to only go to sleep during a set time. It’s kind of embarrassing how few times I’ve hit my target sleep schedule in the last few months.

You sleep alone most nights, but bed-sharing allows you to set different sleep goals and tracks for each side of the bed.
Tracked sleep metrics
Your smart bed frame tracks tons of sleep metrics. This far exceeds the capabilities of my early model Apple Watch. Each morning, within an hour of waking up from bed, you’ll receive a personalized report showing total sleep, sleep quality, sleep goal percentage, deep sleep, light sleep, REM sleep, time to fall asleep, number of times you wake up, and time spent. Arousal, sleep efficiency, heart rate, breathing rate.
Get a weekly view of your sleep schedule and see if you’ve met your sleep/wake time goals. There’s also a calendar view that shows you the days when you slept well and when you slept poorly. You can also access an AI sleep coach that provides additional context and information, including sleep habit trends and tips for better sleep. The bed only tracks sleep during the night and doesn’t provide nap insights like wearables do.
This is a set of metrics that the bed frame tracks each night. Arrows and lines indicate whether the metric is better, worse, or the same as the previous night.

Each day you are given either good sleep quality or poor sleep quality.

The bed frame also monitors your bedroom environment, which I doubt comes standard with sleep trackers. The app allows you to check the room air purity, carbon dioxide level, humidity and temperature.
apparently snoring
My mom and brother are some of the loudest snorers I’ve ever heard of, but they take pride in not snoring. . After my first night in bed, I was shocked when I looked at my breathing pattern and saw lots of blue spikes indicating snoring.
At first I thought those spikes were either baby snoring or deep breathing. I set the bed frame to vibrate gently if it detects snoring (you can also choose to move it to the anti-snoring position) and I didn’t notice any vibration at all. My answer came two months after a night of heavy drinking. When I woke up, the sleep chart showed that the bed had activated the smart snore pulse he had three (!) times, and my little blue snore tick created a nearly solid line across the chart. It turns out that eating bottomless brunch and rallying until 2am is my secret sauce for snoring.
A week or so later, I caught a cold and was congested (probably from binge drinking), resulting in Smart Snore Pulse-worthy snoring. bottom. This indicates that there was a period of restlessness in the wee hours of the morning. Note to self: If you want a good night’s sleep, don’t get sick or drunk.

As with most widely available non-medical-grade sleep trackers, I don’t take all these metrics at face value. It looks accurate.
Is the Tempur-Ergo Smart Power Base Worth It?
I was so excited to try the Tempur Ergo bed frame.(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) And it met – if not exceeded – my expectations. There were a couple of nights when the bed randomly went offline and didn’t track my sleep, so it was annoying, but not often enough to be a real problem for me. , and I noticed that I check the app metrics every day.
There are plenty of adjustable bed frames out there, but not many that track your sleep and tell you how to improve it.Our closest competitors are Sleep IQ Smart Bed by Sleep Number(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) and the Intellibed Sleep Genius Smart Base(opens in new window)(opens in new tab)The Tempur-Pedic has four adjustable bases, two of which have sleep tracking capabilities.Advanced Tempur Ergo Extended Base(opens in new window)(opens in new tab) For $2,549, it offers a few extra features (four massage zones instead of two, PerfectSeat, and pillow tilt).
The Tempur-Ergo smart base is about $2,000, and so is my 14-inch MacBook Pro. Obviously, not everyone needs his $2,000 bed frame, but the mattress is supposed to last about 10 years, so we know this bed frame will last a long time, too. So it’s worth the investment.
