British postal service Royal Mail announced on 18 January 2022 that it has resumed some “limited” international deliveries following the ransomware attack that hit the company on 11 January.
These limited services include “International Standard and International Economics Letters without Customs Declaration” and “International Business Standards (No Tracking) and International Business Economics Personal Correspondence Letters (No Customs Declaration Required)”. It is included. Post posted in the Customer Help Center on January 20th.
This is due to an “operational workaround” that allowed the company to bypass systems affected by ransomware attacks. Attackers may be associated with the LockBit hacker group.
The company has also asked customers not to submit new export parcels to the network that do not fall into the above two categories.
Customers may experience ‘minor delays’ but the rest of the Royal Mail services are functioning including UK services, import operations and Parcelforce Worldwide export services.
“Royal Mail is working with external experts, security authorities and regulators to mitigate the impact of this cyber incident and focus on restoring export services,” the company said.
