At the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Women’s Entrepreneurship (WE) event in Naples, Fla. announced that it has a new tool called It helps people who are “less familiar with intellectual property” identify the intellectual property they own and the rights they need to protect it. This tool also provides basic information about patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights.
In a press release on Wednesday, Vidal said the tool should be used by “anyone looking to start a business or grow a business,” adding, “This will encourage more people to innovate. Join the ecosystem to make America more competitive, grow our economy, and solve the world’s problems.”
According to the press release, the tool includes two “modules”: Basic IP Identifier and Advanced IP Identifier. The Basic option allows the user to easily identify the IPs they own, while the Advance option allows them to dig deeper into her IPs and additional resources of a specific type. The Office is also working on a third module, Managing IP Assets.

The USPTO will launch the Women’s Entrepreneurship (WE) Initiative in November 2022 to “inspire women and harness their potential to meaningfully increase equity, job creation and economic prosperity.” is intended for This initiative is a joint effort with the U.S. Department of Commerce and focuses on women-to-women connections, support networks and funding sources. It also includes a new online hub with key information to help aspiring female entrepreneurs.
According to the USPTO, registered intellectual property significantly increases a company’s overall value.
“Using the company’s first patent as collateral has increased venture capital funding by 76% over three years and funding from initial public offerings by 128%. It also serves as a recruiting tool for startups. The approval of the first patent application will increase the number of employees by 36% over the next five years.In addition, by protecting the IP, the market share can also be increased.New companies with patents cumulatively increases sales by 80% over non-patented companies.”
The WE Initiative and new tools are part of the USPTO’s efforts to expand innovation opportunities for American women. The USPTO reports that women make up far fewer IP holders than men, with only 13% of patents owned by women.
Last July, the USPTO also announced a number of other initiatives to help first-time patent applicants and under-resourced inventors.
