The Bollé Eco React Mips are urban cycling helmets that put safety and sustainability at the forefront of their design. I found it suitable to wear on my urban commute. If that’s your degree of cycling, it’s worth a look, but we’re not entirely convinced about your particular commuter lid needs. For more options, see our guide to the best cycling helmets. Looking at the marketing information for Eco React Mips, it’s clear that sustainability is one of the key selling points. Bollé says, “The same qualities that make the helmet lightweight, comfortable and safe also make it eco-friendly.” Some of the steps Bollé has taken to make it more environmentally friendly include recycled plastic (40% of the shell is recycled), cork in the EPS layer (20%), plant-based nylon, and a bamboo fiber lining. but only some plastics are used. You can exchange petroleum products.
Using this for urban commuting, I found it to work great. Easy to put on and take off.
The cork peak is also a real winner for me. It helped keep the wind and rain out of my eyes on long road rides where I often don’t wear sunglasses.
The Eco React Mips are part of Bollé’s range of urban bikes, but when I tried them on long outings, they didn’t do too well. With the removable peak off for road riding, it felt much wider, heavier, and cumbersome than the road helmets I’m used to. It just doesn’t offer the same lightweight and aerodynamic features as a road helmet. (And it didn’t work well with my sunglasses.)
But for urban riding, I like the style and design. I like the cork freckled look of the EPS foam and the colors of the helmets I tested. Bollé calls it “dark green matte,” but it looks like matte black to me. We also have a “blue mat” that actually looks blue.
Both come in three sizes: S 52-55, M 55-59 and L 59-62. Oddly enough, the green (black) small size is £25 cheaper than the other sizes.
safety and value
The name should come as no surprise. This helmet includes Mips safety technology that allows movement between the Mips layer and the helmet, reducing the level of impact transferred to the head due to rotational forces in the event of an accident.
> What you need to know about Mips
When we look at our competitors for price comparison, few cycling helmets boast similar sustainability certifications, but there are many urban helmets we’ve tested in this price range recently. The CHPT3 Barrivell Mips are a bit cheaper at £130 and have a similar design including peaks. George thought it was very good and got an 8/10.
The Abus Hud-Y is also slightly cheaper, at £129.99, which Lara appreciated as well, but doesn’t include Mips safety tech.
The HJC Calido Plus was £165 and Caroline was less than impressed. By comparison, a 140-pound volley doesn’t seem unreasonable.
That said, there are other helmets that offer better all-around performance at a lower price point, such as the £90 Kask Sintesi, which Lara thinks is better and looks out of place on the road or on commuter rides. not. .
Conclusion
In summary, the Bollé Eco React Mips perform well in urban situations for which they are designed. Loved using it for commuting and it was nice to see sustainability taken into account in its manufacturing. I’m not entirely convinced with the idea of spending £140 on a helmet. There are cheaper options that do both well.

Not the most versatile, but a good urban helmet with eco-friendly qualifications

Make and Model: Bolle Eco React MIPS
What is the product for and who is it intended for? What do manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings?
The Bollé Eco React is specifically aimed at urban cyclists who value sustainability.
Bollé said: To reduce the environmental impact, we added cork to the EPS, used recycled plastic in the shell, and used natural fibers such as cotton webbing and a bamboo fiber lining for cyclists who want to pursue an active sport. It is the first step to meet your needs. A city lifestyle while doing our part for the planet. ”
It’s good to see Bollé making an effort, but apparently not all helmets use ‘green’ materials. I’m not sure there’s enough of a difference to really make a buying decision.

Much cheaper than the HJC Calido Plus, but 10x more expensive than similar lids we tested. But you can buy a more versatile lid for less. For the £140 price tag, I think it’s more versatile.
How does the product perform overall when used for the purpose for which it was designed?
For city rides, it worked really well. The peak is a nice addition and the helmet is easy to put on and take off.
What did you especially like about the product?
I like the design of the helmet, especially the color.
Tell us what you didn’t like about the product
It’s not more versatile. I never intended to use this as a road cycling helmet. It felt wider and heavier than other helmets.
How does the price compare to similar products on the market, including those recently tested by road.cc?
We tested several urban-focused helmets. This is more than 100 times better than both the CHPT3 Barrivell Mips, which have a similar design with peaks, and the Abus Hud-Y (but without the Mips). However, the HJC Calido Plus, at £165, didn’t score very well in our tests.
However, there are cheaper helmets that offer better all-around performance, such as the excellent £90 Kask Sintesi for road riding and commuting.
