It’s been a full four years since Polestar first unveiled the Polestar 2 sedan to battle its first mass-produced car, the Tesla-3. Sedans are hungry for updates, and Polestar offers just about anything a buyer could want: range, power, performance and standard features. Headlining upgrades include a switch to a sportier RWD layout on the single-motor variant, a raised ceiling of up to 300 miles (483 km) of EPA-estimated range, and near 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) includes a decline in 4 seconds. The all-new Polestar 2 also benefits from much-needed dental care.
Polestar’s knurled grille has downgraded the look since the birth of the first concept car. The company has finally addressed a nagging flaw in his Polestar 3 SUV concept last year with the introduction of something called SmartZone. This is a cleaner body-colored front-end treatment that houses his active safety hardware, such as the front-facing camera and mid-range radar.
The refreshed Polestar 2 will be the first production car to feature SmartZone, and we believe the new design is more suitable for premium electric vehicles. Polestar couldn’t help but see a row of square teeth peeking out from under the SmartZone panel, but progress can be slow and gradual.
Polestar has gone far beyond a basic cosmetic facelift to give the MY2024 Polestar 2 some serious new features and equipment, ensuring it’s the best Polestar 2 yet. The single-motor variant has increased capacity with a larger 82-kWh pack and preliminary EPA range of 300 miles (483 km) from 270 miles (435 km) of the original single-motor Polestar 2 Long Range suitable for estimation.
This one motor changes direction and drives the rear wheels instead of the front, delivering an additional 68 horsepower for a total of 299 horsepower (223 kW). The newly developed permanent magnet motor significantly increases peak torque from 243 to 361 lb-ft (329 to 489 Nm).
The dual motor AWD Polestar 2 gets its own rear bias for improved performance and feel. An asynchronous front motor is combined with the rear primary for a total of 421 hp and 546 lb-ft (314 kW and 740 Nm). Polestar promises improved traction and a 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) drop to 4.1 seconds with the help of the performance pack, or he’s 4.3 seconds without it.
On less demanding low-speed stretches, the front motor disengages, leaving thrust to the rear motor to improve efficiency. It cuts in as soon as the driver hits the accelerator. The dual-motor model inherits the older 78 kWh battery pack but manages an improved range of up to 270 miles.

The 2024 Polestar 2 also adds more standard features like driver awareness technology and wireless phone charging. The dual motor long range model for North America also adds a standard Pilot Pack with features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information with Steering Assist, Cross Traffic Alert with Brake Assist and Rear Collision Warning Mitigation.
Polestar didn’t release any information about North American pricing or availability in Tuesday’s announcement, but the 2024 Polestar 2 is already on order in Europe. Prices start at €50,190 for the single-motor standard range model and €53,890 (approximately US$54,700 and US$58,750) for the single-motor long range model.
