Rolling out the RCS messaging feature has been a long and frustrating process for all Android users. Then Google decided to jump on the bandwagon and make his RCS accessible to just about everyone through their own messaging app. Still, Samsung was also lagging behind. This is partly because various wireless carriers are holding back. Today we’re going to look at how to set up RCS chat for him in the Samsung Messages app — if your carrier has enabled it.
What happened to RCS chat with Samsung Messages?

When this tutorial was originally written, it followed the release of the Galaxy S21 lineup, which continued to use Samsung Messages as its default SMS client. At the time, the instructions below were still valid and allowed us to use RCS Chat without relying on Google Messages.
However, after the Galaxy S22 was released in early 2022, Samsung switched gears and made Google Messages its default SMS client. And while the Samsung Messages app is still available, it’s no longer the default option, and some features have been removed entirely, such as the ability to enable and use RCS chat.
Now, even if I set the Samsung Messages app as my default, I can’t find the “chat features” section of the app described below. This may be due to the fact that RCS is available via
On the other hand, using RCS with the Google Messages app eliminates potential friction with support for all major US carriers. Samsung has even gone so far as to ship a customized version of his Google Messages app, making the company’s own messaging similar to that found in his client.

Whether it can be activated depends on the carrier that activates Samsung’s stock app “Advanced Messaging” service. So whether you have a Galaxy S21 or just want to use the Samsung Messages app, your availability of these features may vary.

RCS is the new SMS, at least for Android.
As Google continues to try to get Apple onto the RCS train, it looks like they won’t stop trying to “make fetch real”. Google has updated its own messaging app. This way, when you text an iPhone user, you’re not bombarded with pointless messages when they respond to something.
Unfortunately, this was definitely a “one way” situation, as Apple doesn’t seem to care about RCS at all. But we may have no choice but to wait for the EU to get involved. This could force Apple’s hand and open up iMessage to his Android world.
Until then, RCS is the protocol of choice for those with the best Android phones. And since Samsung has embraced Google Messages as the default, you don’t have to worry about jumping through a series of hoops.
