Starting in March 2023, Apple will increase service fees for battery replacements on out-of-warranty iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. The price increases range from $20 to $50 for various types of devices.
The change was spotted by a Reddit user who pointed out that Apple had silently mentioned the change on their repair pages for these devices.
“Current out-of-warranty battery service fees apply until the end of February 2023. Starting March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will increase by $20 for all iPhone models prior to iPhone 14. The company mentions it on its iPhone battery replacement and repair page.
Below is a quick breakdown of the additional amount you will need to pay for battery replacement for out-of-warranty devices after March.
- iPhone 13 and earlier: $20 (total amount: $89)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation or earlier), iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation or earlier), iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad mini (6th generation or earlier), iPad Air (5th generation or earlier): $20 (total price: $99-$119)
- All MacBook Air models: $30 (total amount: $159)
- All MacBook Pro models: $50 (total amount: $249)
For reference, the battery replacement price for the iPhone 14 battery is $99, which is higher than its predecessor.
This change is global and regional price increases may vary. For example, the UK charges £20 for an iPhone battery replacement, while France charges €24.
Service fee increases will not affect AppleCare or AppleCare+ subscribers or those who rely on third-party repair services.
In particular, Apple launched a self-service program for US-based iPhone users last April.
The increased service charge for battery replacement isn’t ideal, but it breathes new life into your device so you don’t have to spend money on a new gadget.
