They carefully hung the 12VHPWR adapter
FPS Review wanted to see just how much you could get out of the RTX 4090 Founders Edition, and we’ve carefully set it up so that no magic smoke leaks out of the power boost. For this experiment, we used EVGA’s Precision X1 overclocking software with a Ryzen 9 7900X and ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E paired with DDR5-6000. A Seasonic Prime 1300W was used to power the system, providing plenty of power for the RTX 4090.
Since this card is a beast at normal frequencies, we bumped the power target to 133% and fan to 100% before it started. With that extra power, they managed to boost the GPU clock by 220MHz and the memory by 1.25GHz. I was able to boot with an additional 270MHz GPU and his 1.75GHz memory, but the system crashed when I tried to benchmark it.
This boost gave a noticeable performance boost in most games, but also increased the total power of the board to 490W! and may even be stable at 500W.
