The EU is pressuring TikTok to comply with the newly adopted Digital Services Act (DSA). DSA aims to improve content moderation on social media platforms, including providing transparency about why certain content was removed and how advertisers target users .
The European Commission’s Thierry Breton told Shou Zi Chew that TikTok must start complying with the new rules well before the Sept. 1 deadline. According to new regulations, the social network could face fines of up to 6% of its annual revenue, and things could escalate to banning his platform from operating in the EU.
