French wearable airbag specialists In & Motion take inflatable head protection to the next level, creating a cycling backpack that adds serious coverage. Stun packs work like other inflatable backpacks, helmets and vests, but are intended to provide more complete head, neck, chest and back protection for everyday bike commuters. It’s also designed to work seamlessly as a commuter backpack carrying your laptop and other daily work essentials.
Since its inception in 2014, In & Motion has developed self-activating airbag systems for various sporting activities. Its OEM airbag technology is used in third-party vests for sports such as skiing and horseback riding. In fact, just this month alone, a motorcycle competitor wore about 30 vests in the 2023 Dakar Rally, with airbags inflating his 45 times in the event, the company said.
In & Motion’s airbag deployment technology is built around something called the In&box, an electronic module that contains all the sensors and management hardware. Box Run analyzes 1,000 times per second and uses algorithmic logic to detect and predict falls and activate deployment.

Stan represents In & Motion’s transition to cycling, designed for urban commuters on regular bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. In&Motion isn’t the first company to propose a cycling-specific airbag backpack, but that pack offers more complete protection than what EVOC has revealed for his 2021. The stamp pack includes head protection along with neck, chest, abdomen and spine coverage. In & Motion’s goal is to reduce the risk of head injuries by 80% compared to wearing a bicycle helmet as the only means of protection.
In & Motion shows Stan being used without a bicycle helmet. The snug fit when inflated suggests that it was developed to replace a helmet rather than supplement it. According to the company, when a fall is detected, the airbag deploys in less than a second he does in 10 minutes. Additionally, the pack pairs with a smartphone app to automatically contact emergency responders in the event of an airbag deployment and direct them to the user’s girlfriend’s GPS coordinates if necessary.

In & Motion believes the Stan’s design will be an attractive choice for weight and style conscious urban commuters. The 18-L bag looks and functions like any other commuter backpack, featuring a roll-top closure, daisy chain lash points, and dedicated space for everyday essentials such as laptops and phones. Unless the airbag system is too heavy and burdensome, stun packs can be used by people who don’t want to carry a regular pack or wear separate safety equipment such as an airbag vest or jacket (especially if it is effective). ) should be intriguing. Enough to change the helmet.

In & Motion will begin promoting the Stan in late 2022 and is still testing and developing the design, with plans to launch it in the future. No development partners have been announced yet, so it’s not clear if they’ll be selling Stan packs directly, or providing the tech to third-party gear makers like they’ve done in other segments. Therefore, pricing information is not yet available.
