Dutch people love to go from A to B by bicycle. This can cause problems when parking. Underground parking is one way. The city of Amsterdam has completed a huge project to submerge thousands of car parks near the Central Station.
In an effort to provide off-street bike racks to make the area around Amsterdam Central Station more pedestrian-friendly, the city commissioned the construction of two new underground car parks. Underwater as well as underground.
As part of a larger renovation project, the initial design was done by Rotterdam-based studio wUrck Architecture, and work on the station side began in 2018. Stationsplein was built over 9 m (30 ft) below Open Havenfront. Underwater between Prins Hendrikkade and Stationseiland by Max Bögl group.
Take a look at the new (and biggest) bicycle parking lot in our city! 🚲 Open today, on the central side of Central Station.
↔️ We have space for a total of 7,000 bicycles.

Officially inaugurated by Environment Minister Vivianne Heijnen on Wednesday (January 25), the structure has a capacity of 7,000 bike parks, making it Amsterdam’s largest bike park. The bright and airy interior riffs on the water theme and is accessible from street level by fixed and moving walkways.
A second facility with 4,000 parking spaces is scheduled to open next month at IJboulevard. Over the next few weeks, bike racks on the street will begin to be removed, giving this area a tidier and more pleasant aesthetic.
