With consumers clamoring to get an item tracker to keep track of their belongings, it looks like Samsung is getting closer to releasing its next iteration.
South Korean news website Naver reports that the company will release its second-generation Galaxy Smart Tag in the second half of 2023. “Prevent unauthorized tracking.”
Another apparent source at the outlet said the upcoming Samsung smart tag could include a quality internal speaker for a louder “I’m here” sound. The new tag could also feature SmartThings integration similar to the Galaxy SmartTag+. This allows you to control smart home appliances such as lights (dimming) and smart TVs.
The next-gen SmartTag will likely have a larger battery compared to the company’s previous release. Includes rechargeable battery. Ideally, if improvements were made in this area, consumers would have less to worry about.
Additionally, SmartTag+ was launched almost two years ago, but the product was Ultra Wideband (UWB) based. This kind of connection allows the SmartTag+ to provide a more precise location of your lost device and provide better tracking capabilities than the original SmartTag.
Samsung will continue to offer this UWB connectivity in the next SmartTag iteration to maintain good competition with Apple’s AirTag.
This new Galaxy SmartTag is just one of many products we’re looking to gather more information about later this year. Naver reports that the next iteration of the tag is said to be rolling out alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Buds 3.
All of this is hinted at at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event later this year. If you’re taking your cues from last year’s, you can probably expect to learn more about the upcoming Galaxy SmartTag and other devices around August.

Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag+ is equipped with ultra-wideband connectivity, providing consumers with precise location and precise tracking when locating their device. The SmartTag+ can last up to 5 months on a non-rechargeable battery and can be attached to your keychain or bag to keep an eye on your items.
