- Samsung is working on a new Google Discover alternative, which will be released later this month.
- Samsung Free, launched in OneUI 3, will soon be replaced by Samsung News.
- The latter is nothing but an improved version of Samsung Free.
While most users opt for Google Discover on their Galaxy devices, Samsung Free is an alternative option available to Galaxy owners. But in a perhaps more effective move to take on Google Discover, Samsung is (again) revamping the former as Samsung News (via Android Police).
For starters, Samsung Free was first introduced in One UI 3, which is based on Android 11. This is a content aggregator that works similarly to Google Discover. In fact, the South Korean tech giant is suggesting to Galaxy users to choose one or the other. This was basically the second rebranding after Bixby Home became Samsung Daily and then Samsung Free.
Samsung Free features allow users to watch live TV and free channels, listen to podcasts from top publishers, check news via video and text, play instant games, and more. As mentioned, it’s a relatively effective alternative to Google Discover, which ships with devices such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
According to Android Police, the company launched Samsung News as a way for users to discover different types of news on their Galaxy phones and tablets.
With the latest revamp, the tech giant combines the “Read” and “Listen” tabs, primarily focusing on news content by offering new avenues. and Play tabs in favor of similar apps Samsung TV Plus and Game Launcher from the Galaxy Store.
The Samsung Free app is currently in the 5.5.08.3 version on the Galaxy Store. According to the company, it will be rebranded to Samsung News after his 6.0.1 update, due on April 18th.
The new Samsung News changes look remarkable, but given the fact that many users are likely to be deeply rooted in Google Discover, the vast majority of users, especially Galaxy device owners, will find it It will be interesting to see if you choose it, because we know how well everyone is using Bixby as a potential Google Assistant alternative for Galaxy phones.
