Motorola plans to launch the Moto Edge 40 Pro in Europe soon, with South America coming soon. The base model has his 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and is priced at €900/£800. That’s less than Samsung’s Galaxy S23+.

And Motorola has certain advantages. For example, the 6.67-inch OLED display is a 10-bit panel with a refresh rate of 165Hz. The same goes for Samsung, albeit not in QHD+ resolution (FHD+) and not in LTPO panels.

Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but as we already mentioned, the Moto has more RAM. I can’t even Also, the near stock Android gets his 4th update and the phone gets his 5 years of security patches. Expanded software support is one of the biggest strengths of Galaxy phones, and Motorola aims to match it.

Both main 50MP cameras are pretty similar (1.0µm pixels, OIS). Moto dominates with the 50MP ultra-wide module (vs. 12MP), but lags with the 2x12MP telephoto camera (vs. 3x 10MP). The 60MP selfie cam looks good on paper, but it lacks autofocus.
Finally, Motorola put a slightly smaller 4,600mAh battery on the Pro (100mAh down on the S23+), but beats Samsung outright on charging speed. The 125W wired adapter can be fully charged within 25 minutes, Samsung in 30 minutes. And unlike many phones with super-fast wired charging, it doesn’t sacrifice wireless charging. At just 15W, it’s plenty for most use cases.

The OnePlus 11 is one such example. Delivering 100W by wire, wireless charging was cut even though it was present on the 10 Pro. Anyway, the phone is currently €850 for the 8/128GB unit and €920 for the 16/256GB unit.
Unlike both Motorola and Samsung, the OnePlus 11 has a QHD+ LTPO display (120Hz). Its 32MP 2x zoom camera outperforms the Edge not because of its optics, but because of its high-resolution sensor that allows for digital zoom. The phone is also set for 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
Samsung Galaxy S23+ • OnePlus 11 • Xiaomi 13 • Google Pixel 7 Pro
The Google Pixel 7 Pro typically drops to €800 (or less) for a 12/128 GB phone, with the 256 GB option typically charging only a small premium. It has a decent 5x periscope with a 48MP sensor behind it. The 5,000mAh battery charges slowly (23W wired and wireless), and the Tensor G2 can’t match the Snapdragon in CPU and GPU performance (although it has plenty of AI power).
what else? The €1,000 Xiaomi 13 with 8/256GB unit (vanilla model, Pro much more expensive) could be an option. Like Samsung, this only has his FHD+ non-LTPO display (120Hz), but the 6.36-inch size helps. This one lacks his Pro brother’s 1-inch sensor (instead, it has a 50MP 1.0µm sensor). It also has a 3.2x 10MP telephoto camera and he also has 67W wired and 50W wireless charging for the 4,500mAh battery.
