In 2020, we first heard about the SUS1, a prototype folding steel electric scooter manufactured by Swedish startup Stilride. Well, the company has now released full specs and pricing for the production version of the vehicle, called the Stilride 1.
The body of the SUS1 consisted of multiple sections of stainless steel sheets that were robotically folded, whereas the origami-inspired body of the Stilride 1 is made from a single sheet. In contrast, most scooters consist of a welded tubular metal frame covered with plastic body panels.
Stilride claims that its proprietary manufacturing technology reduces manual labor on the assembly floor, reduces material waste, reduces overall weight, and enables smaller local factories to produce. Finished product.
More specifically, the company says the Stilride 1 is 40% lighter, has 70% fewer structural components, costs 20% less in materials, and costs 25% less to manufacture than comparable traditional scooters. .
