New price This is the aluminum sole of one of the work boots from the Overland Shoe Company in Racine, Wisconsin, circa 1916. The story behind this piece remembers this being used by workers in the back of his grandfather’s fish market as a child. Their cigars as ashtrays. This was back in the days when everyone was smoking while they were working, even if it wasn’t where they cooked fresh fish. My family came from Denmark in his early 1900’s. First as a fisherman on Lake Michigan, he later worked at a fish market that opened in 1922. These boots were used by dairymen, slaughterhousekeepers, miners, fishermen, wherever and wherever the surface was wet. Slippery. This sole is fairly worn, but the sole shows overlandmarks and was once attached to an oiled leather boot. Definitely a collector’s item for those who collect workwear and boots. I have confirmed with a Racine County historian that this is from the time period. Marked, Overland Shoe Company. Racine Wi Pat Pend Dec 8, 1914 3 r (3 right) The cleats are all intact, but there is some rust on the bottom of the sole, and the rim rivet holes are all clean and free of cracks. This is a tiny shoe trail smaller than any other shoe trail. my ancestors. So I don’t know which fisherman it belongs to. The last photo is from his Hoardman Dairy trade magazine advertisement in 1916. It measures 9 1/2″ long x 4″ wide, 3 1/4″ wide at the front and 2 3/8″ high at the heel.
