Monoprice has been a force in the computer scene for many years. Originally a go-to place for cheap, high-quality cables and basic consumables, it now offers far more options in more categories than ever before. I’ve purchased quite a few cables from here, but I’m not limited to just that. One of his products that comes to mind is a USB-powered condenser microphone that has been in continuous use for the past decade or more (you can see it regularly on the PCPer podcast). The company has a good reputation for a reason.
The basic premise of the company is to provide quality products at very competitive prices. Sometimes the product is barebones, doesn’t have much aesthetics, or is severely lacking in RGB. This is less of a concern as function trumps form at the price points we’re getting into. Monoprice also does not hesitate to address new markets when opportunities present themselves. Speakers and monitors are indeed two major product areas, and Monoprice’s product managers felt they could offer a high-quality, no-frills product without breaking the bank.
Today we will focus on a new area that Monoprice is trying to tackle. This is an interesting area that departs somewhat from the usual product range offered by Monoprice. Since the spread of COVID-19, which has forced people to live indoors for uncertain periods, several genres of games that have been largely untouched by the general public have begun to emerge. Sim racing was one of them. See NASCAR sponsoring virtual his races with real drivers and massive sim rigs and soon all sim his gear will be much more expensive and less available I was. Wheels and bases that were on sale a few months ago are now selling well above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
To address this market, Monoprice introduces a wheel stand, the Dark Matter GT Foldable Racing Wheel Stand. This small number will set the consumer back at around US$153. For those unfamiliar with wheel stands and cockpits, this means it’s very competitive and affordable for a product that matches the specs of more expensive units from big name brands.
