Construction of two factories in Magdeburg
Intel is keen to diversify its supply chain, building new factories on three different continents to ensure its dominance in the industry. The latest steps in this plan are two new plants in Germany, following last week’s announcement of new plants to be built in Poland and Israel. In all three cases, Intel received subsidies to locate factories in these countries, with Germany providing the equivalent of $11 billion. This represents a significant amount of her $33 billion that Intel expects to spend on building these two new factories in Germany.
Intel plans to break ground in the second half of this year and, if all goes well, be operational in 2027. These plants will be in addition to plants already agreed or under construction, including the 50% expansion of the Gdansk plant in Poland, which will be completed later this year. Intel hasn’t said what the new plant in Germany will produce, but we do know that the Rieklip plant in Ireland will be the Intel 4 line.
