The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the latest big-name addition to AMD’s Ryzen family of CPUs. I wanted to spotlight a recent build with all 16 cores of the Raptor Signature Edition. Running 32 threads and utilizing AMD’s 3D cache technology, this processor is no slouch at all. This proved to be true during testing.
Today’s subject is a mechanical beast such as:
- Kingston Fury RGB DDR5 RAM (32GB)
- 2TB Samsung 990 PRO2 SSD
- Custom AIO liquid cooling, 360mm
- GeForce RTX 4090
The stars of today’s show are, of course, our professionals. The 7950X3D challenged him to a Cinebench swing and scored just under 36,000. This far exceeds some AMD Threadripper and Intel Xeon chips. It lags behind the 13th generation i9, but this is obvious. The difference in core count (the i9 has a whopping 24 cores), and both processors are multi-threaded in our tests, giving Team Blue a bit of an unfair edge. However, the score per core definitely goes to the X3D, with a staggering 2250.
I highly recommend this processor for anyone running programs (or games!) that require a large amount of L3 cache, or who put a lot of pressure on a single core. It also has plenty of firepower for multi-threaded applications, but if that’s an absolute priority, it might be wise to consider investing a bit more to get more cores.
