verdict
A flexible American-style refrigerator freezer, the Samsung RH69B8941S9 can also be converted into a large side-by-side refrigerator. It’s not as deep as many of its rivals, but it’s packed into a clever hidden water dispenser and jug, but SpaceMax technology means the insulation is thinner, meaning interior space isn’t compromised. Like refrigerators and freezers, running costs are very high.

prologue
Water dispensers and ice makers are useful features in a refrigerator freezer, but both can be unsightly and aren’t the most hygienic. There is a secret little door at the front that leads to a beverage center that houses water dispensers and jugs.
Add flexible storage, two types of ice, and superior temperature control, and this is a flexible and powerful American-style refrigerator-freezer.
design and function
- clever bottle rack/shelf
- Beverage center inside the front door
- lots of space inside
An American-style refrigerator with a freezer on the left and a refrigerator on the right, Samsung RH69B8941S9 is a fairly large model. At 1780 x 912 x 716mm, this model has the same width and height as the competition, but isn’t as deep.
With Samsung’s SpaceMax technology, the wall insulation is thinner than the competition, so there’s actually more room inside, with a total of 645 liters of space, splitting between 403 liters of refrigerator space and 242 liters of freezer space. divided. That’s 10 liters more total space compared to the deeper LG GSXV90MCDE.
There is one large door for the refrigerator, but feel the inside of the rim. There is a latch that unlocks the door halves to enter the Beverage Center. There is a standard water filter dispenser that supplies filtered water piped from the mains. The dispenser is also hygienic as it is washable and sealed from the outside world.

There is also a 1.4 liter pitcher inside that can be set to automatically fill with water. A jug of cold water is handy to have at hand, and inside is an infusion holder so you can flavor the water with fruit or herbs. It is also dishwasher safe, so cleanup is easy.

This small door provides access to items in the central door pocket. A 1 liter milk carton fits perfectly, but a tall milk carton does not. This shelf is useful for standard items like canned drinks and ketchup, as it can be reached without opening the main refrigerator.

Inside the door, there are 4 door pockets. There is a cutout where the jug goes in, leaving a little impractical space at the end. This is only suitable for the smallest items. The other 3 are a good size, but the largest item should go in the bottom item.

The main area has 4 main shelves and a bottle rack. Well, it says rack, but it’s a recessed shelf that’s more convenient than a regular rack. It fits bottles of all shapes and sizes and doubles as a regular shelf.
I had to put a 2 liter bottle of lemonade in it backwards (cap facing the back of the fridge). Of course, the exact size and shape of the bottle makes a difference.

There are two good sized drawers on the bottom, but no humidity control is available.

The freezer compartment is a good size, and the main unit has 3 shelves and 2 large drawers. Each shelf is wide enough to hold a regular pizza.

Samsung RH69B8941S9 distributes ice in two compartments. The left side is for ice bites (small chunks) and the other side is for large cubes. There’s even a scoop to help you take them out. I like this approach a lot because I found it was faster to get ice than using the slow dispenser built into the refrigerator door.

The 3 door pockets are just the right size, big enough for fish fingers and ice cream boxes. It’s nice to have quick access to a few items instead of rummaging through shelves.

The bottom pocket is small. I guess it’s better than nothing, but it’s not very practical most of the time. It has a wine collar for cooling a bottle of wine that fits there, but I’m not sure a dedicated pocket is necessarily needed.

One of the smartest things about this refrigerator/freezer is how it uses space. Rather than a standard freezer-fridge, the freezer section can be converted into a refrigerator, doubling the space, but it will melt if the ice is lost. Still, it offers huge space for the fridge and a lot more flexibility than you would normally get with a convertible refrigerator freezer.

You can also turn your Samsung RH69B8941S9 into a mini refrigerator. Turn off the main refrigerator to save power and leave the small freezer section used as a refrigerator.
performance
- Extremely stable refrigerator control
- The freezer temperature is slightly lower than the set temperature
- quite high running cost
Refrigerator freezers are similarly tested, with automatic door openers installed and temperature sensors placed throughout to measure temperature changes. When I set the refrigerator to 4 degrees Celsius, I found that the temperature throughout the refrigerator is about the same from top to bottom.
Samsung RH69B8941S9 had an average temperature of 3.19°C, 0.8°C off the target temperature. However, the standard deviation shows that the temperature fluctuates only +/-0.38°C from its average value, indicating how stable this refrigerator is. A standard deviation of 1 is good, anything less than that is exceptional.
Moving to the freezer, the temperature is again stable from top to bottom, with an overall average of -19.96°C, which is 1.96°C lower than the -18°C we set. Here the average standard deviation shows that most temperatures vary by +/-1°C from the average, which is very good.
It’s a frost-free refrigerator freezer, and we didn’t experience any ice build-up during our testing.
As is often the case with large freezers, the Samsung RH69B8941S9 isn’t cheap to run and has an E-class energy rating. Expected to consume 350W of power per year, my testing yielded similar results. The annual operating cost of this refrigerator freezer is approximately £119, giving an overall running cost of £0.18 per liter.
To significantly reduce running costs, you should use smaller appliances such as the 60cm wide Hotpoint H9X 94T SX.

final thoughts
It’s nice to see Samsung doing something a little different with the Samsung RH69B8941S9, rather than just an American-style freezer. An integrated beverage center can be really useful for many families, but it doesn’t take up much physical space. you can put it out. Combined with a flexible interior and the option to turn this all into a refrigerator, the Samsung RH69B8941S9 offers more than many of its rivals.
Running costs aren’t cheap by any means, but are typical for such a large item. Refrigerators, in particular, have excellent temperature control and are useful for preserving food. If you want something a little different, check out our guide to the best refrigerator freezers.
