London to get a slice of the Big Apple with NYC-style Highline park

A new high line style project is coming to London, England. Dubbed the Camden High Line, the road creates elevated parks and promenades in the vein of some of New York City’s most popular attractions.

The Camden Highline Project collaborated with local architectural firm vPPR, the Camden Highline Team, and community engagement firm Street to build the original architect of the NYC Highline, James Cornerfield Operations (with Diller Scofidio + Renfro). ), who created the space.

The project is 1.2 km (approximately 0.75 miles) long and is located in the London Borough of Camden. Like most other Highline-style developments we’ve seen, it involves transforming a disused railroad into a new elevated park and walking trails to revitalize the local area. , which extends from Camden Gardens to Royal College Street and is connected by a 4-mile (6-kilometre) loop of promenades, parks, transport hubs, and destinations such as the Heatherwick Studios coal drop yard.

Key greenery will be planted by garden designer Pete Oudolf, who re-engaged with the original High Line in consultation with the London Wildlife Trust. The landscaping will be arranged to guide visitors through distinctive areas inspired by forests, productive gardens, meadows and English hedgerows. It also has a children’s playground, a volunteer-run lot, outdoor classrooms, an observatory, windows to view trains, and both stair and elevator access.
