following the success of bikini bottom contest – hydration, The Purple Lamp was then tasked with creating another SpongeBob game while sticking with what made the remake work. The last game saw the studio simply recreate the game without designing much new stuff, so that’s always a fair amount of risk. Spongebob Squarepants: Cosmic ShakeOn the other hand, is a completely new game while building on many of the previously implemented ones. The result is an interesting 3D platformer with a colorful and diverse world. No amazing effects, but still fun enough to justify its existence.
Interestingly, Spongebob Squarepants: Cosmic Shake Has a plot similar to the recently released sonic primeSpongeBob buys a container of soap bubbles from an apparently bad mermaid in Globe World. She told him that he could use this soap to make her wish come true. But disaster strikes when various buildings and citizens are dragged into another dimension, and SpongeBob and balloon-turned-Patrick jump in to save them.
Surprisingly, it writes pretty well. The characters all feel like they should, and there’s a lot of humor. Of course, the show’s cast will return to their roles and try as hard as they do when recording episodes. It’s also pretty funny to hear SpongeBob and Patrick repeatedly explain how obvious they are being played. They are too stupid to understand it.

All of this takes place in sequence, requiring the player to progress through a series of linear events to the end and fight the level’s boss. These levels aren’t particularly long, usually lasting about 40 minutes he just over an hour. Unlike many similar platformers, this isn’t a collectible game, but it does have some aspects.
Each level has a certain number of gold coins, many of which cannot be collected until you return later in the game to gain abilities and press switches or the like. You’ll also receive side quests in the hub that require you to scrutinize the item’s level, and you’ll be rewarded with gold coins when the item is returned. That’s all. SpongeBob usually gets new costumes that match the theme of the level, so it doesn’t hurt to have variety if you decide not to bother with gold coins.
You only have to go through each level once to complete the game, but if you want to complete all the side quests, you’ll have to go through all levels again. Of course, easier said than done. It’s easy to miss one of the five or so items required for these, and the game doesn’t tell you where they are. It doesn’t seem worth the effort to get a single coin.
The level design stands out for its variety. The game’s visuals never feel repetitive, as there are pirate, Halloween, and medieval themed levels.

SpongeBob has the same controls as the previous game, but with some new moves. He still has a double jump and attacks by spinning and releasing bubbles. The controls are solid, but not great. The transition to glide can be a little more difficult and the double his jumps aren’t as tight as they used to be, but the platform is still plenty fun.
Unlike the previous game, SpongeBob is the only playable character. Patrick is always there, following behind like a balloon and constantly joking with his best friend. It’s always fun to hear Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke go back and forth.
Most players shouldn’t find this game too demanding. Spongebob Squarepants: Cosmic Shake Most are pretty easy, with unlimited lives and generous checkpoints. However, the platforming is not so simple that older players will find it boring. Standard platforming, seahorse rides, slides down, a few mini-games, hooks to swing on, and much more are on display. My biggest real complaint is that SpongeBob is still too slow. However, his speed is mitigated somewhat by spamming dodges. Unfortunately, it has a long cooldown that cannot be bypassed immediately after use.
However, the combat is so-so. Hit detection is a bit iffy and lacking in impact, but there’s a variety of enemy types that make intermittent matches interesting enough to never get completely stale.

shake it till you make it
Spongebob Squarepants: Cosmic Shake It has managed to become another fun Spongebob platformer. You can easily complete it in 7-8 hours, but that number will balloon if you want all the gold coins. Fans who want to spend more time with characters and solid mechanics will be happy with what’s here. Plus, it’s easy to maintain a high framerate even when the levels without loading screens are very large. , which is as good a reason as a reason to fly around under the sea.
