Boasting great performance for gaming on the go with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the REDMAGIC 8 Pro definitely knows how to start the new year off right. A host of incredible upgrades from its predecessor is how it tackles the challenge of whether a gaming smartphone can surpass his REDMAGIC 7S Pro.

REDMAGIC 8 PRO DESIGN AND HARDWARE
Especially for me, especially when it comes to mobile gadgets, there’s no denying the allure of shiny things. Everything from the minimalistic packaging to the box design has gamers in mind. Smartphones, of course, proudly wear their gaming aesthetics like badges. No time wasted in knowing exactly who this device’s target market is, and the overall look is refreshing.
In particular, the box flaunts REDMAGIC virtual brand ambassador and Slash mascot Mora in an undeniably cool-looking comic book-inspired adventure, and as soon as you open the box, you can tell from its appearance that it’s “more games!” You may be prompted to “win”. just by phone.

For the sake of this review, the latest flagship model I was able to test drive is a futuristic matte, boasting an elegant back, neatly lined camera lenses and a classy but downright unwieldy weight. As you’d expect for anything gaming-related, the back of the phone also features the iconic RGB lights that you can customize to your liking. You can even change the way the lights flash, or switch the colors themselves. Sometimes it’s bragging rights for others to see you beat the bad guys like a boss.
However, compared to its predecessor, the 8 Pro has a more subtle take on the typical gamer aesthetic, perhaps opting to capture the non-gamer market due to its lack of ruggedness. This makes the 8 Pro feel a little more fragile than the 7S Pro. This is less than ideal given how much abuse a gaming phone can be expected to take, especially during intense hardcore sessions. It also lacks a solid grip compared to the 7S Pro.

That aside, what makes the REDMAGIC 8 Pro even more luxurious is, of course, the screen. Arguably an industry pioneer when it comes to flexible fullscreen with ultra-narrow bezels, and no matter what title (or movie) you’re playing (or the movie you’re watching), the device looks simply breathtaking.
Like its predecessor, the phone features 520Hz dual-shoulder triggers and the much-welcomed and beloved 3.5mm headphone jack. However, the Samsung GN5’s 50-megapixel rear camera is still a big plus. HDR mode, low light mode, quick focus and 200W macro are more than enough for me.
Gaming Experience, Battery Life, Charging Speed
With 12GB of RAM and 256GB of memory, the REDMAGIC 8 Pro can confidently carry you through hours of uninterrupted gaming thanks to its upgraded 6000mAh battery. This makes for great long-lasting performance – but just in case you run out of juice, the blazing fast charging will get you up and running in no time (a full charge took just over 30 minutes) . .
Gaming performance itself is fast and energy efficient. For example, in my open-world MMORPG he only consumed 2% of his battery life when he did 10 minutes of gaming. Just like we liked the built-in cooling fan on the previous model, the phone’s ICE 11 cooling system perfectly complements its efficient heat transfer. Even more impressive is how quiet the turbofan is. So I had to strain my ears to really hear the sound of the fan going away from the power plant inside and this alone is a huge improvement over the previous phone and can be found on the official website You can read more about his Nubia cooling tech here.

Connections are also very easy, as is the refreshing cooling system. Simply install REDMAGIC Studio on your laptop and easily cast your phone screen to your monitor whether wired or via USB-C. I didn’t experience any annoying delays in either case, nor did I have any trouble connecting another Bluetooth controller to my phone. However, my model had serious issues with the WiFi connection. More on this later.
MORE MORA WITH REDMAGIC 8 PRO
Aside from the sophisticated gaming space I’ve come to love with this series, REDMAGIC 8 Pro now puts Mora at the forefront, putting her own ecosystem as a virtual assistant at the heart of it. From setting up to do it to posing her in different locations using augmented reality, I’m not ashamed that I’ve spent so much of my day just exploring her features here. It feels like a game in itself, and simply adds to the phone’s overall appeal when it comes to dynamic wallpapers and interactive elements.

The gaming space, on the other hand, has everything a true gamer needs within reach. You can select titles to include in the list. Every time you launch that game, the fan will automatically turn on, and you can swipe the top of the screen to access curated plugins.
These plugins allow you to easily take notes and paste them around while playing the game. You can also visit YouTube for quick tutorials you may need without leaving the game. You can resize and move these mini-windows so that your view is unobstructed. You can also access useful settings such as screen brightness, screenshots, game reminders, stopwatch, aim assist, and shoulder button mapping. .

what is the appeal?
Given the size and weight of the phone, it can be a bit difficult to operate with one hand or play games in portrait mode. Like its predecessor, the phone has a few typos and grammatical errors here and there in the menus, and there’s still some Chinese text, especially in the game space.
These are all minor issues, as the true fullscreen and unmatched gaming performance more than make up for the minor drawbacks, but one major setback keeps me from enjoying this device as much as the REDMAGIC 7S Pro Supernova Lords Mobile Edition. I couldn’t. That’s wonderful.
For the sake of transparency, my REDMAGIC 8 Pro suffers from faulty WiFi functionality that can disrupt my gameplay every time. My internet connection can be pretty spotty where I live, and it’s normal for the connection to drop occasionally. However, none of my other Android or iOS devices suffered the same fate, especially his REDMAGIC 8 Pro, which refused to reconnect once my WiFi network was disconnected.Game crashes, kicked out of title, in phone settings menu[WiFi]I had to manually reconnect by going to the button.

As you can imagine, this is a huge disappointment for a gaming phone considering most games require an internet connection. This is very strange as I’ve never had this problem with my 7S Pro or any other device.
It’s possible that my unit is defective or has some kind of setting or update that my phone doesn’t have yet. There is also a possibility. Or maybe sticking with the 7S Pro is the safer option for now, at least until all the bugs in the new version are worked out. Solve the flagship model. Of course, I have reached out to his REDMAGIC and the product team is working hard to fix this issue, but so far my device still suffers from this unfortunate ailment.

All in all, the REDMAGIC 8 Pro is once again a beast of mobile gaming, definitely outperforming the 7S Pro in a myriad of ways. Honestly, you won’t enjoy it as much as its predecessor, and your mileage may vary – but for me, I’d rather stick with the 7S Pro for now because it has a solid internet connection. .
