On paper, the two may look quite different. Pike is small, Grog is huge. Pike recovers and Grogg is enraged. Despite these differences, Pike and Grog share an unbreakable, almost brotherly bond. they stick to each other no matter what, Legend of Vox MachinaIn the second season of , we learn a little more about how the two became close.
In episode 9, “A Trial of Pride,” Grogg talks about his life before he met Pike. He travels, murders, and loots with a storm pack led by his uncle Kebudak (voiced by Ralph Ineson).

In one raid, Grogg tried to save an unsuspecting gnome from harm, but Kebdak banished him from the pack and beat him to within an inch of his life. It was Trickfoot (voiced by Henry Winkler). A photo of Pike and Wilhand on Wilhand’s rocket was what caused Grog to defy his pack in the first place. Now Wilhand has Pike heal Grogg in return for saving his life. The two have been fast friends ever since.
of Legend of Vox Machinawhich is made even more poignant by the events of the previous episode when we see Pike help Grogg overcome the corrupting effects of Craven Edge of Swords (voiced by Matthew Mercer). Pike and Grogg’s first meeting was never actually played in the original key role Dungeons and Dragons Campaign target Legend of Vox Machina Based on. Instead, it was a brief backstory shared between Johnson, Willingham, Mercer, and Critical Roll’s Dungeon Master.
“The first game I sat down to play when we were just sitting around the table — I got into the second game. You helped him, you saved him. “It was just a small blurb, and from there grew the friendship and relationship between Grog and Pike.”
“It was almost ten years ago,” adds Willingham. “I remember sitting in my car writing Grogg’s theoretical backstory on a notepad and texting Ashley her. Then she texted her back and said I We were just exchanging it.”
Now, that blurb and the story made of the text is coming to life in a TV show. It’s a feeling that Johnson describes as “the best.”
“What you can visit [Pike and Grog’s meeting] This was the beginning of it all, so it was a really big comeback moment for me in the series.
“You can see how close their bond is, how much they depend on each other, and how much of a family they are,” Willingham said.
“Oh, that’s so good,” Johnson added.
