Samsung Galaxy S23 series gets Google Fi eSIM support

What you need to know

  • Google Fi extends eSIM support to multiple Galaxy devices.
  • These include the latest Galaxy S23 series and foldable Galaxy phones.
  • Google Fi has launched eSIM support on the Pixel 2 series.

Google Fi is one of the prominent US carrier services. While providing a physical SIM card, networks can also use embedded SIMs, also known as eSIMs. However, availability of the latter has been limited to some Pixel devices so far.

Google has quietly added a Google Fi support page (found by 9to5Google), indicating that it is expanding support to non-Pixel devices, including Galaxy devices.

The page has a dedicated section to check Android device compatibility, listing the latest Galaxy S23 series next to its predecessors the S22 series, S21 series, and S20 series. Followed by the Galaxy Note 20 series, foldables like the Galaxy Flip 4, Fold 4, and Galaxy Flip 3 are also said to work with Google Fi’s eSIM.

The 9to5 report also suggests that Samsung and Google have yet to decide whether to extend support to more Galaxy devices in the future. That’s because the quietly announced Google Fi eSIM compatibility list already includes about 18 Galaxy devices released in 2020 and beyond. This is quite a number to begin with.
