Nestled in a forested setting in the southwestern Indian countryside, Wendy House represents a sensitive approach to forested spaces, built primarily from recycled and sustainable materials. and positioned so as not to disturb the trees on the site. A remarkable dwelling takes the form of his two brick vaults, which promote indoor/outdoor living and are placed on either side of a central courtyard area.
Wendy House by Earthscape Studio features a similar overall design to the Dune House and Edgeland Residence. Its two intricate vault structures are each constructed from her three layers of bricks. Recycled tile was added as her fourth layer to ensure waterproofing, and a potted wall made of mud surrounded both the house and the courtyard.
“We didn’t need a steel or concrete structure, and we didn’t want to disrupt the existing natural environment, so we proposed a tumble vault structure,” explains Earthscape Studio. “The form of the vault is formed based on the position of the trees and the natural environment so as to blend in with the site. A beautiful courtyard with a small water area is formed between the transparent twin vaults leading to the courtyard. This courtyard. creates natural light in the space, creating different levels within the building that follow the contours of the site.

The appropriate size of the interior is 1,100 square feet (approximately 100 square meters), divided into two areas. The interior will appeal to fans of bare concrete, but with wooden chairs and detailed concrete furnishings, it might be a little too harsh for some.
On one side of the house is the main living room, kitchenette and dining area, on the other side is a separate bedroom and bathroom. Judging by the photos at least, the bathroom is completely visible to everyone else in the house due to the extensive use of glass. However, it’s probably not difficult to add some privacy with a few blinds if the owner wishes.
Wendy House was built over eight months, during which Earthscape Studios remained on site. No word on budget.
