Tesla Autopilot workers in Buffalo, New York, launched a union campaign today. If successful, it would mark the formation of the first union at Elon Musk’s electric car maker. Bloomberg reported on the union movement after speaking with several Tesla workers at the Buffalo facility.
A worker at the factory told Bloomberg News that Tesla monitors keystrokes to track how long employees spend on each task and how active they are during the day. This has led some employees to avoid bathroom breaks, he said, six employees.
“People are tired of being treated like robots,” said Al Cheri, a member of the union organizing committee.
Workers want higher wages, better job security, more involvement in workplace decision-making, and limits on “monitoring, indicators, and production pressure.”
