When you look at mountain bikes with unusual suspension technology, the oddities are usually up front. The Veli cross-country MTB is unconventional backward However, the suspension system is claimed to have some advantages over traditional setups.
Designed and built by Australian mountain bike suspension company Vasttech, the Veli is the first bike to feature Vasttech’s proprietary suspension system.
First unveiled five years ago, the Vasttech setup places the rear pivot point about half the length of the chainstays where the seatstays join the chainstays. A specially tuned Fox Performance Float DPS shock extends from the rear of the left chainstay to the left seatstay providing 112mm of travel.

So what’s the point?
For starters, Vasttech designer Tim Southall says the setup will allow the bike to have a hardtail-style “double diamond” frame. pivoting rear swingarm).
Additionally, the Vasttech system is said to move the wheel axle backwards to help absorb bumps on square edges. This setup is also claimed to reduce rear-end squat caused by “pedal bob” when climbing or accelerating, and reduces unsprung weight to make the bike more sensitive to small bumps.

Other Veli custom features include a full carbon monocoque frame. 3-spoke monocoque carbon wheels (29″ front, 27.5″ rear). Carbon handlebar and stem from sister company Atoll Bike.
In addition to the Fox rear shock, third-party components include a Fox Factory 34 SC fork with 120mm of travel. Fox Factory Transfer SL Dropper Seatpost. Shimano XTR drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes. And Vittoria Barzo tires. Only one frame size is currently offered, and the entire bike (excluding pedals and saddle) is reported to be just 9.59 kg (21.1 lbs). Other sizes should be available next year.
No, Veli is not cheap. Be prepared to part with AUD$13,700 (approximately US$9,445) if you need it.
