A month ago Nothing Phone (1) received its second Android 13 beta, which is now out of testing. OS 1.5.2 has not yet been deployed and includes a stable build of Android 13 as of January 2023 security patches.
Please note that there are no details on the rollout schedule for this stable release yet. Currently, it seems that only participants in the beta program get the new version. That said, the release should extend to cover all Nothing Phone users, barring any unforeseen issues.
If you were on the latest public beta, this is a fairly small update of just 157MB. Below is a screenshot of the changelog for v1.5 of Nothing OS.
NothingOS 1.5 stable release changelog
Founder Karl Pei murmured Battery life has been significantly improved with v1.5. According to the changelog, standby power consumption has been cut in half.
He credits the quality of the software with improving because it has an in-house team to develop Nothing OS (the team that previously worked on OnePlus’ Oxygen OS). Previously, Pei shared that the first version of Nothing OS had to be outsourced because Nothing Mobile started with just his five engineers on his team. He has a team of 100 people working on the OS and nothing else.
