Disney’s Hotstar suffers outage in an apparent domain renewal mess • TechCrunch

Disney+ Hotstar suffered an outage for some users in India during the popular cricket match, and Disney’s crown jewel has already faced some setbacks in South Asian markets. We are getting criticism from our customers.

It’s unclear what caused the glitch, which Hotstar acknowledged as an “unexpected technical issue” across its apps and web. Hotstar renewed his domain name Hotstar.com on February 17, according to domain registrar records. If Disney temporarily loses ownership of the domain, it will take some time for the new changes to propagate to all users.

DownDetector, a web reliability monitoring service, reported a spike in the amount of complaints about Hotstar on Friday. Many users on social media also mention the inability to use the app on mobile phones and desktops.

A Hotstar spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The stoppage came during a high-profile cricket tournament underway between India and Australia. Hotstar, one of India’s most popular video streaming services, recently lost streaming rights to his popular IPL cricket tournament.

According to Deadline, the company will also reportedly lose the rights to stream HBO shows in the country.
