The Galaxy S23 series is starting to receive software patches to match other devices.
According to GSMArena, Samsung has started pushing the latest February 2023 security patch to its latest Galaxy S23 series. The update has started appearing for users in Europe, but should start appearing in the US and other regions later this week.The download size for the Galaxy S23 is around 500MB, while the download size for the S23 Ultra is around 600MB.
Given the timing, the Korean OEM’s flagship series launched with One UI 5.1, but only included the January 2023 security update. With the latest security patches arriving now, the Galaxy S23 series can offer fixes for some pretty serious bugs.
The February 2023 patch for devices aims to fix about 48 issues across Android software, and an additional 7 issues in Samsung’s One UI. Some of these issues were quite severe, such as the WindowsManagerService fix, as the company detailed in its patch notes. This fixes an issue where a malicious attacker could leverage the device’s screen capture functionality to obtain information.
In addition to security fixes, the patch also appears to include updates for many of Samsung’s preloaded apps, including Samsung Notes, Samsung Health, Clock, and SmartThings.
