According to F-Secure, millions of UK adults have fallen victim to digital scammers in the past, and a quarter do not have security controls to protect their online activities.
Finnish security vendor surveyed 1,000 Britons as part of global survey safe life Study cybersecurity awareness and behavior.
We found that 19%, or approximately 12.6 million Britons, have been scammed in the past by online scams such as phishing attacks. According to F-Secure, the impact of these incidents has ranged from stolen identities to lost data and passwords to life insurance theft.
However, reports show that a significant minority of people are not protecting themselves online, despite spending an average of eight hours each day using the Internet. One reason may be that the prospect is intimidating to many. Sixty percent of respondents say they find cybersecurity too complicated.
The report also highlighted inconsistencies in respondents’ attitudes and perceptions. More than three-quarters (77%) claim to be able to detect fraud, nearly two-thirds are concerned about their personal and family safety online, and half (48%) are concerned about their I answered that I don’t know if the device is safe. or not.
F-Secure CEO Timo Laaksonen said:
“Despite the fact that many Britons often feel unsafe online, they still do not have adequate security measures in place. Why would you do it online and risk being targeted by online criminals when you can’t?”
According to the FBI, phishing will be the largest type of cybercrime by volume of reported incidents in 2021, with identity theft, romance fraud, tech support fraud, and investment fraud also ranking in the top 10.
According to the same report, investment fraud and romance fraud accounted for a combined $2.4 billion in cybercriminals that year.
F-Secure’s report’s findings also appear to point to the risks companies face when employees have a lower level of security awareness in corporate areas, as they do at home.
