Folding ebike powers pedal-assist or throttle-only urban adventures

Pedal-assisted bikes are a great way to get around town, and folding models are convenient for storage between rides. Budget-friendly e-mobility startup KBO Bike has launched his 60-mile e-folder with a half-twist his throttle that you can get for under $1,000.

KBO operates a direct-to-consumer business model from Carson City, Nevada, but its e-bikes are manufactured in Asia. Flip joins commuters, all-terrain rollers, stealthy urban adventurers, and freight haulers as the newest member of the company’s low-cost e-bike offering.

It’s built around a 6061 aluminum folding frame with rocking quick release levers. In three steps he folds down to 36.6 x 14.6 x 27.6 inches (92.9 x 37 x 70 cm) for transport between rides or indoor storage. A carrying handle is built into the frame for easy lifting up the stairs to the office or to the train car.

The ebike weighs 57 lbs (26 kg) with a total payload of 275 lbs (125 kg). Thanks to the integrated rear he rack, riders can carry essentials on out-of-town adventures and carry books to school. Optional bag or strap for a backpack full of shopping.

The Flip features a 500-W geared rear hub motor and offers three pedal assist modes via cadence/speed sensing or half-twist throttle for speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h). The KBO also includes a Shimano 7-speed gearset for added ride flexibility.

A lockable, removable 15.6-Ah lithium-ion battery sits behind the seatpost and is reportedly suitable for over 60 miles (96.5 km) of assisted riding or 35 miles with throttle only on a single charge. I’m here. A suspension fork and wide, comfortable saddle help smooth out bumps along the way, aided by 3-inch Chaoyang all-terrain tires wrapped around the ebike’s 20-inch wheels. Braking power is provided by disc brakes with 160 mm rotors.

The Flip folds down to dimensions of 36.6 x 14.6 x 27.6 inches and can be transported between rides in the back of the family car.
