Five improvements we want to see on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are the best foldable smartphones on the market today. Samsung has ruled the foldable smartphone world for over three years now, but that’s about to change a bit. Oppo, HONOR, HUAWEI and Xiaomi have all caught up and made some great flagships like the new Oppo Find N2 Flip, Find N2 and HONOR Magic Vs.

Wrinkle-free, better hinge mechanism

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Samsung Galaxy Z series devices have improved greatly over the years, but there are still many problems. It’s not as noticeable as it used to be, but it’s noticeable when you look at the display at an angle. That’s not all; creases can still be felt in your hand, and accessories like the Fold 4’s S Pen make the experience even worse.

The Galaxy Fold and Flip 3 series got a major hinge redesign, and the Fold and Flip 4 series got an even bigger design. However, this redesign didn’t solve all the problems, mostly focusing on reducing the overall weight and thickness of the device.

In the future, we expect Samsung to take inspiration from HONOR and Oppo. Because these two companies have managed to eliminate most creases. The hinge mechanism on these devices also seems to show better and more promising results, as they are slim, add little bulk or weight, and can be fully folded without a gap in the middle.

These are all issues Samsung has yet to address. We expect the 5th generation to be even better while retaining the excellent water resistance certificate not yet available on other competitor devices.

better camera

The Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 have better camera sensors than their predecessors, but not as good as their Galaxy S series counterparts. The Galaxy Fold 4 captures impressive photos and videos in all lighting conditions, but it’s a far cry from the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

One could argue that the privilege of having a compact tablet in a foldable form factor comes at a premium cost, and that’s probably true. The premium foldable on the market.

LI Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - 10

The Galaxy Flip 4 borrows a camera lens from the Galaxy S22 series. It takes beautiful pictures in all lighting conditions, but feels like it’s a step behind the flagship Galaxy S series. Compact and foldable Due to its compact form factor, the device does not have a third telephoto sensor. This is something we want to see in the Flip series sooner or later.

The Galaxy Fold 4 uses almost the same camera configuration as the Galaxy S22 and S22+. Both are premium smartphones at almost half the price of the Fold 4. I would like to see improvements in this department as it is foldable and worth the price.

faster charging

LI fast charge battery

The Samsung Galaxy Flip and Fold 4 supports 25W fast wired charging, which falls short of its competitors. For reference, OPPO Find N2 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 support 67W fast wired charging, and the new HONOR Magic Vs also supports 66W fast wired charging. None of these devices offer wireless charging, but we’re looking forward to the day Samsung catches up to the competition and offers fast charging speeds.

Samsung has long offered 45W fast wired charging to its Galaxy S series lineup, Plus, and Ultra models. Still, these devices often hit up to 25W, making high-speed power adapters useless and expensive.

Galaxy Z Flip 5: Larger cover screen

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display covered with Gorilla Glass Victus+. It’s a great display for previewing selfies, reading notifications, and processing information, but it’s not very useful and doesn’t offer many benefits.

The new OPPO Find N2 Flip comes with a more convenient 3.26-inch AMOLED panel that allows you to view the camera’s viewfinder and other great features in a way better than Samsung’s. It’s much more user-friendly, and we’d love to see Samsung increase the size of the cover screen, allowing for more functionality even when the phone is fully closed and folded.

Galaxy Z Fold 5: Dedicated S Pen slot

z fold 3 view with s pen

The S Pen is very useful and, depending on who you ask, it’s an important part of the overall foldable experience. As a Fold 4 user, I find this useful and a great tool for occasional use, but it’s impractical because it requires a bulky case to store the pen. As a result, the extra thickness makes it nearly impossible to use your phone as a GPS while traveling, making it more cumbersome to operate.

A dedicated S Pen slot has been rumored since the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Z Fold 3 devices, but now it’s time to see it on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. It may not arrive in time for the Fold 5. But there is hope that we can see it on the Fold 6 in 2024. Until we have more concrete information from more reliable sources.
