PlayStation VR2 teeth finally Here, finally. But what can Sony’s new headset actually do?
With a launch lineup that’s nearly 30 games deep, PSVR2 has a lot to offer from day one. However, there is a big caveat to this. Almost all launch games are also available on Meta Quest and other PC-centric VR headsets. There is very little new and exclusive here.
PlayStation VR2 is a killer headset that needs killer apps
That said, PSVR2 may be the first foray into virtual worlds. If so, here are some games you should consider trying out on your shiny new headset.
No Man’s Sky
Flying ships in VR is a lot of fun.

Price: $60 (but always on sale)
Remember No Man’s SkyFirst released in 2016, this survival game allows you to explore a nearly infinite galaxy filled with nearly infinite randomly generated planets to discover, explore and mine resources. Build a science base, garden, and fly a giant spaceship.
The PS5 version of No Man’s Sky got a patch this week to enable VR support. It takes a few minutes to figure out the controls, but eventually you’ll be able to run around with your jetpack and mine carbon with very little effort. Don’t overdo it.
Most importantly, flying ships are very cool. No Man’s Sky VR. One hand manually controls the throttle and the other hand manually controls the flight he stick.you can simply Barrel rolls can give you motion sickness, so avoid them if possible.
runner
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can slide “Akira” in this game.
Credit: Truant Pixel/Steam
Price: $15
If you want to feel cool in VR without spending any money, there are worse ways than playing. runner.
Set in a neon-lit future dystopia, with an aesthetic heavily reliant on 1980s and 90s anime, runner It’s basically a motorcycle driving game Akira Really fast. Speed down city highways while shooting police robots and vehicles with different upgradeable weapons. It’s easy to understand, but difficult is no joke.
Sure, dying sucks, but the thrill of shooting the explosive core of a police motorcycle while going 150mph is worth it. runner It’s Rudd. you have to play it.
tetris effect connection
Credit: Enhance/Steam
Price: $40
tetris effect Might be the coolest game ever.imagination Tetris But with psychedelic visuals and songs, some dude raps about needing to heal a breakup — imagine that in VR.
this is not tetris effectThis is my first experience with VR, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the experience. I’ve become much more focused on the action in VR, allowing me to play more skillfully than I normally would. TetrisAnd the visuals and the music are the same, So It’s good that you can’t help but be drawn into the process.
My tips for you: cannabis No loss of experience.
Lesbian Infinite
Cyberspace is out of control.
Credit: Enhance/Steam
Price: $30
The only reason I couldn’t say no tetris effect The coolest game ever made is that Lesbian Infinite exists.
This dates back to the Sega Dreamcast and PS2. lesbian It’s a kind of 3D rail shooter (think star fox again panzer dragoon) Synchronize your shots and set them in cyberspace to create music on all levels. It looks and sounds incredible everywhere, but in VR it’s phenomenal.
Lesbian Infinite was also a standout for PSVR1, so while it’s nothing new, it’s worth playing. The PSVR2 version adds the ability to aim with your eyes. This is trippy and very cool.just play lesbian if you haven’t.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain
Aim well or pay the price.
Credit: PlayStation
Price: $60
Horizon: Call of the Mountain It stands apart from the rest of this list in a few key ways. First, it’s a full-price game. Second, it’s a brand new PSVR2 exclusive title from Sony and the only one available at launch.
From the first few hours of play, anyone looking for maximum spectacle with a PSVR2 headset will be satisfied. call of the mountainGiant Robot Dinosaur in . horizon The universe is bigger and more impressive in VR.Besides, this game uses the power of his PS5 to simply Best looking PSVR2 game I’ve seen.
It’s also a fairly full-featured game. There’s a lot of climbing mountains (don’t look down, trust me), but it actually tires your arms quite a bit. It also has a robust combat system that requires a certain level of archery skill. Not only do you have to accurately aim at specific parts of the enemy, but you also have to dodge enemy attacks while aiming.
Very fun and challenging. horizon Fans dig it. This is perhaps the biggest standout in his line-up for PSVR2’s launch.
Kayak VR: Mirage
nice and relaxing.
Credit: Better Than Life/Steam
Price: $30
Kayak VR: Mirage was the first PSVR2 game I played, and it couldn’t be described more simply.
It’s just a kayak game. Moving your arms like a real kayak makes the physics feel pretty real. You can kayak in real-world locations like training pools and Antarctica. The visuals are gorgeous, the atmosphere is peaceful, and just the right way to spend 15-20 minutes.
Resident Evil Village
Price: $40
you can accept everything i just said Kayak VR: Mirage say the opposite Resident Evil VillageThese atmospheres are anything but serene, and I wouldn’t call the experience “comfortable.”
Visuals are still great though.
But seriously, this is exactly what you’re thinking.if you play RE: Village You can play it again in VR when it releases in 2021. If not, get ready for a harrowing and bizarre trip through the European countryside. , manual gun reloading (and shotgun pumping), different movement options, and even cutscenes reframed for full 3D viewing.
And yes I see tall women very expensive.
thumper
Imagine being completely immersed in this.
Credit: Drool/Steam
Price: $20
thumper was originally released in 2016 and has won the hearts of rhythm game fans (and drummers) around the world. It has weird, abstract visuals and a bass-heavy, percussive soundtrack that can only be described as “music.”
This PSVR2 version thumper It doesn’t fundamentally change gameplay.it just thumper in VR.Amazing speed thumper‘s vaguely ominous Rhythm Highway. What more do you need?
other games i want to try
I’m a single person and didn’t have time to try every game in the PSVR2 launch lineup. However, here are a few that I think are worth checking out based on some quick test runs.
-
demeo: A turn-based tactics game set in your family’s basement. You can zoom in on the steps to feel like you’re actually in the dungeon or watch from the comfort of your basement.
-
Song in the Smoke: A survival game focused on smashing objects into other objects to create new ones. It has a rather dreamy art style, and the first entity you meet in the game is her strange three-headed crow.
-
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition: This is just an enhanced version of the game we loved it When it appeared in a quest a few years ago.if you dig Star Warswhich is easy.
Many of these games are old hats for longtime VR veterans, but for newcomers, PSVR2 has a lot to offer.Come on, let’s go play for real lesbian and tetris effectYou can thank me later.
